The SetiGandaki, meaning ‘white’, is an important river system in west Nepal. It originates from the Machhapuchhare and Annapurna peaks of theHimalaya in the north, and flows south through the famous Pokhara valley. It is regarded as an important part of the local culture, ceremonies, and life itself. However, it is currently threaten by hydropower dam projects, increasing population, and lack of management from the government.

Vimal Thapa has been an adventure and nature tourism guide for over two decades. He has worked with many national and international adventure travel companies and is a founding member and Managing Director of Nature-treks.com. Vimal has a graduate degree in Environment and Sustainable Development (PGDESD), and speaks fluent English and Nepali. On weekends, he volunteers and leads bird education and awareness activities for students in Kathmandu.
